2002: As it is known, on October 13 , 2002, the Municipal elections will
take place. In these elections, a new way of calculating the voting

Trees
planting - beach cleaning: On Sunday morning schoolchildren, together
with their parents, participated in a voluntary tree-planting and
beach-cleaning event. It was organized by Mr. A. Zisis, teacher of
Olympic Education, with the help of the Municipality of Korthi, Forest
Department of Andros, Korthi
Nautical Club and Andros Hunting Association.

Seminar
for professionals: The two-day seminar (April 9 & 10) on the Tourist
Market has been extremely valuable for the area. The participants had the
opportunity to listen to D. Pantazis, who, in an inspiring and
comprehensible way, outlined the modern tourist tendencies.

Award for the Elementary School of Ormos: The Elementary School of Ormos participated in the Greek Nature Protection Association's Program for Environmental Sensitivity and Education as part of the International "Eco-Schools" program. Based on the materials and the efficient acts performed the past two years, they will be awarded the Program's Green Flag. On Saturday, April 13, 2002 at 10:15 a.m. at the 12th Elementary School of Koridallos in Athens, the delegates from the Elementary School of Ormos will present a small part of their winning participation in the program. After their presentation they will receive the Green Flag and a Certificate of Participation in the International Network of Environmental Education.

for professionals: The Municipality of Korthi and the Organization of
Professionals are organizing a two-day seminar on the Tourist Market. The
topics for discussion include:

The Period for Planning
All Professionals, and those who wish to participate in the seminar, are
invited to the Elementary School of Ormos on Tuesday, April 9 and Wednesday,

Renovations
made to the spring at "Kamara" in Mousionas: Recently,
renovations were made to the spring "Kamara", which is located in
Mousionas. With the help of the Municipality, the local residents renovated
the old "Psinari" and the surrounding area.

Boat: The crew members of tug-boat "Help" (Tonga registration), were arrested on Sunday noon at Korthi port, for illegally setting sail from Elefsina harbor, despite the existing prohibition for this boat. The crew consisted of captain Hanis Athanasios, engineer Kavourgias Evaggelos and Ahmed Rasoul from Iraq. The tug-boat run aground in Steno area, between Andros and Tinos islands, and it has a large crack in its left side, while the engine-room is flooded. The crew members were to be brought to court in Piraeus (source: Aegean Times).

European Union Initiative: The Management Board of the project "The
Ecological Vision of Andros-Cooperation for a Sustainable Development"
invites all its social partners (associations and residents) in a working
meeting, which will take place on Saturday, March 23, 2002, at 11:00 a.m.,
at the Municipal Theater of Andros.
Also, the Mayor of Korthi, Ioannis Glynos, issued a statement in
relation to the progress of "LIFE" project.

Korthi Carnival of Andros: The
Big Carnival Parade has been a
great attraction on Sunday March 17. Despite the weather conditions, which
were not so good, the number of people who participated exceeded any
prediction.

Korthi Carnival of Andros: On Saturday March 9, lots of people gathered
in Ormos to enjoy the festivities of the "Maskarata", which
is a night-time carnival parade. There was plenty of good fun as the masked
participants danced and partied along the main street of Ormos. After the
parade, fireworks lit the night sky, that left the audience in amazement.
The "Maskarata" has put all of the residents and visitors of
Korthi in anticipation for the Big Carnival Parade, next Sunday
(17/3) at 3:00 p.m.!!
