Korthi’s very own Giorgos Fragos is one of the most merited Greek windsurfers. He was born on October 24, 1982 in Athens and moved back to Korthi during the early years of his life. He graduated from the high school of Korthi in 2000 and today attends the Gymnastics Academy. He is the son of Haralabos and Ekaterini Fragou and he has a sister Sophia.
He began windsurfing during the summer of 1997 and in 1998 – 1999 ran his first races. In 1999 he began competing in championship tournaments. At the start of his career he didn’t have a coach but Mr. Aki Hrisohou, 6 time national champion, was the person who taught him all about windsurfing and stood by him during his first years. He is an athlete of the Nautical Society of Korthi Andros. He is currently living in Athens and is training at the NAO Vari – Varkiza, with his current coach and old Mistral champion Dimitri Piliho. Of course he is a permanent member of the National Windsurfing Team.
The last few years, he has succeeded in playing a protagonist role in and out of the Greek borders. He is stably and permanently in third place in this demanding sport with the Olympic Champion Nikola Kaklamanaki (who is 12 years older than Giorgos) and his friend and co-athlete Aki Hrisoxou in first and second place respectively.
In spite of his young age, his presence in this sport (more than five years) has not gone unnoticed. His career is filled with numerous hours of sailing and honors.
At the Greek National Children’s championships he has received the gold medal four times.
At the Greek National Young Adults championships he has received the championship title receiving the gold medal four times.
At the Greek National Men’s championship has received second place and third place titles.
At the World Open Young Adults championships he received 7th place for the year 2000.
At the World Men’s championship in the year 2001 he received 32nd place.
Twice he has received first place in the Greek national rankings.
In his last official race in Greece which took place on November 14 – 17, 2003 he received first place in the Men’s division between Greek and foreign athletes.
Also in his last official international meet, which took place on December 19, 2003, he received first place in the Men’s division.
He won a place on the Olympic Team after many national races. In spite of his young age, Giorgos Fragos has plotted a career full of honors and hours of sailing. In addition, the fact that he is in the top position of the Greek windsurfing rankings, show his enormous potential.
