ANNOUNCEMENT

Following the latest developments concerning ammunition made of depleted uranium and its use at exercise areas, the Municipality of Korthi issued the following announcement:

One year ago, extensive analysis of surface waters was made (in addition to regular analysis) for the identification of heavy metals (uranium included) and radioactivity and the results were negative.

Andros island navy exercise area, although call this way, is not close to the island, but at another position south of Tinos island.

Nevertheless, in order to clear any doubts, the Municipality of Korthi, in cooperation with the Fishermen Association, sent a few days ago to "Democritus" nuclear institute samples of fish and sea-water for analysis and the results are being expected.

The Municipality of Korthi will continue these checks and in co-operation with all concerned, will press in every direction and everyone in charge for a full investigation of this issue in order to clear all doubts about the quality of water and the environment.
