ANNOUNCEMENT
The reason for this announcement is again the operation of the Post Office at Ormos. Even before a year passes since the last attempt to shut it down, now the indirect reduction of its services is attempted.
After the decrease in the number of the employees from three to two, now, those who are responsible for its operation, refuse to temporarily replace employees on leave. The result is that for at least two months every year, the already problematic Post Office has great difficulties to serve the people. Additionally, if we take into account the imminent retirement of one employee and the rumors about transferring the other, we realize that we are facing a new attempt to shut the Post Office down.
So, the Municipality of Korthi is unfortunately forced again to address the issue of the postal service and generally the services offered to the people.
Unfortunately, because here, at the Municipality of Korthi, only two hours away from the capital of Greece, the services offered are almost non existent.
Unfortunately, because a welfare state should take care of the people in problematic areas, even by subsidizing the services offered, if these services can't be profitable, due to special circumstances.
Unfortunately, because the "Athens-rotating" state we are living into, imposes private economy rules in services, showing no interest if, under these rules, all services in a problematic area should stop.
Unfortunately, because the denial of these services leads to the inevitable abandonment of the country-side and especially of the islands.
Fortunately, the people in the Municipality area are still here, ready to fight for their obvious rights, such as medical care, education, communication, and all necessary services.
The Municipality of Korthi will never consent to the downgrade in the quality of life of its citizens.
The Municipality of Korthi does not fight for human conditions, but for a modern way of life.
For this reason, no decrease or downgrade of services offered will be accepted.
This announcement is a message to all concerned, that people living in this corner are not second-class citizens and they will never be.
