To "ANEMOS" newspaper

In reply to your questionnaire, titled "RESEARCH OF ANEMOS NEWSPAPER ON WATER ISSUE OF ANDROS ISLAND", we have the following comments:

The Municipality of Korthi, even before it formally took over, till today, is responsible for the continuous improvement of living standards of its citizens (including management of water resources, a top priority issue from the very beginning).

This objective is met with the combined effort of many people working in many levels, some of which are improvement of services, sufficient supplies of first necessities, high standard of education, development projects in the area, etc, with the purpose to reverse the continuing drop of population, improve the environment and the living standards.

All these efforts are done in a transparent way and, according to usual practice, all ideas and proposals are welcome. And they are obvious to everybody through announcements, press releases, internet, etc.

It was therefore a surprise to realize that the questionnaire you sent us, includes, in almost all of the questions, the expected (or preferred) answer or, at best, views presented to be "well known".

Frankly, we find it difficult to answer to this questionnaire, without your prior on the spot reportage, which would find any existing problems, in which case we could (and should) express our views.

As an example to the above we mention your article titled "Sxolio" in September 2000 issue, where it is stated that "the Cultural Center of Korthi was not enough used this summer", with the explanation that no other cultural event took place there, except the painting exhibition by painter Nikoleta Antonopoulou.

It is hard to imagine how you missed the announcements (press releases, posters, internet, etc), and even the invitation to your newspaper, for the photography exhibition and presentation of the Municipality of Korthi publication, titled "Memories - Korthi through pictures of the last 100 years", which took place at the Cultural Center of Korthi, from August 5th till September 3rd, and attracted at least 3000 visitors, and still implying at your questionnaire (dated 28-9-2000) the complete absence of cultural activities of any kind (8th question).

We hope your future journalistic research to analyze in depth (on the spot and not from far away) existing problems and good moments as well and be sure that we will be the first to support your work

Sincerely yours

Ioannis Glynos, Mayor of the Municipality of Korthi

November - December 2000
